Disenchanting Guide

In my Disenchanting Guide you will find all of the information you need about how disenchanting works.

Disenchanting is used by Enchanters in World of Warcraft to create the elements from weapons and armor to later use in enchanting an item. Of course, enchanting an item gives it better stats and can be really helpful while leveling your character.

Disenchant - "Extracts the magical elementals from good quality (Green) or better weapons or armor. Destroys the weapon or armor in the process."

After you disenchant an item, you'll receive a loot box and you can pick up the items you have created from disenchanting. You receive the Disenchant ability when you acquire enchanting.

The type and quantity of materials produced from disenchanting varies by item type (armor or weapon), item Level and quality. The following general rules can be used:

  • Dusts usually come from green armor (75%) and weapons (20%)
  • Essences usually come from green weapons (75%) and armor (20%)
  • Shards come from blue equipment (97-100%), epic equipment iLevel 55 or less (100%, 2-4x), and rarely from uncommon equipment (3-5%)
  • Crystals come from epic equipment item Level 56+ (100%) and extremely rarely from rare equipment (~0.5%)

Dusts and Essences

Note that there are some items at the 57-60 item range, which are not from the the Burning Crusade expansion, so those items won't give you Arcane Dust nor Lesser Planar Essence. Same goes for 67-70, some items are from the Burning Crusade expansion and not from the Wrath of the Lich King, so you will get Arcane Dust instead of Infinite Dust.
